One thing I dislike with all my heart is grocery shopping. I hate it so much that I used to get up at 4am on a Saturday morning to do it just because I didn’t want to deal with all the foolish people that would be in there later that day. I’d even rather walk through the crowded streets of New York City during rush hour than go grocery shopping. Never in my life have I seen a time when people forget that they are human and act like wild animals.
Never-the-less, I am now married and often go shopping with my wife. I deal with the rudeness and the carts running into my back and the back of my heels. It’s much better than sitting in a car in the hot sun slowly roasting at 120 degrees and it makes my wife happy. J
I remember the first time I went shopping here in the South. It’s not all that different than shopping in the North. You see the same food’s for the most part and many of the same national brands. Despite the more pleasant attitudes of Southerners it seems that shopping brings out the worst in everyone no matter their geographic location.
Then it happened. I asked someone for their shopping cart they were putting back and I got a look of confusion and astonishment. They looked at me and said, “You mean my buggy?” I was like, “Umm, yeah that.” They gave it to me and went on their way and I went a shopping wondering what on earth just happened. Never in my life have I heard it called a buggy. Just weird!
So what is it? A cart or a buggy? Maybe it’s a basket (Midwest) or a carriage (New England)? It might even be a wagon (Midwest)! So what is it?
What do you call your grocery carrying wheeled device?
